Derby Rugby Club comes together to raise £1,425 for MS Society UK

Derby Rugby Football Club was the setting for a memorable evening of community spirit, generosity and celebration on Friday night, as facilities manager Chris Glover hosted a charity race night that raised an impressive £1,425 for the MS Society UK.

The event brought together family, friends, club members and supporters for an evening of horse-racing excitement, great food, raffle prizes, fireworks and an after-party, all in support of a cause that has become particularly close to Chris's heart.

Chris was diagnosed with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (MS) earlier this year. Since receiving the news, the support and encouragement he has received from those around him has meant a great deal, inspiring him to organise the fundraising event and give something back.

Reflecting on the evening, Chris said he was “absolutely blown away” by the support shown by everyone who attended and contributed to the fundraising effort.

A special thank you was extended to The Travelling Taverna, which provided food for the evening, and to the Mayor of Derby, Jonathan Charles Smale, who officially opened the event.

The generosity of those attending, whether through buying raffle tickets, enjoying the festivities or simply coming along to show their support, helped the evening achieve its fantastic fundraising total.

For Chris, however, the success of the night was about much more than the money raised. It was a powerful reminder of the kindness, positivity and togetherness that can emerge when a community rallies around someone and a cause that matters.

Derby Rugby Football Club has long been at the heart of its local community, and the event was another example of the club providing a place where people can come together to make a genuine difference beyond the rugby pitch.

Chris expressed his heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped make the evening such a success, describing the support he has received from family and friends since his diagnosis as invaluable.

The £1,425 raised will support the MS Society UK in its work with people affected by multiple sclerosis, helping to raise awareness and support the charity's ongoing efforts to improve the lives of those living with the condition.

It was a fantastic evening for a very worthwhile cause, demonstrating once again what can be achieved when people come together with generosity, compassion and a shared desire to help others.
