Derby RFC Vice Presidents gather for lunch

Derby Rugby Club’s annual Vice Presidents’ Lunch took place on 10 October, bringing together around 75 guests for an afternoon of good food, rugby fellowship and fond memories at Derby RFC.
The event, which ran from 12.30pm to 3pm, welcomed guests from the club’s Vice Presidents’ email list, along with their wives, rugby friends invited by fellow VPs and a table of Mini and Junior (M&J) volunteers organised by Charlie Binns.
Catering was provided by Derby RFC staff, with a menu of pâté, boeuf bourguignon, cheese and biscuits and cake. The relaxed afternoon provided a welcome opportunity for old rugby friends to catch up and strengthen their connections with the club.
The lunch began with a welcome to the Vice Presidents, followed by an address from Charlie Walton, who encouraged more people to become VPs and continue supporting Derby RFC. The lunch has been a longstanding club tradition, helping to keep former players, supporters and friends involved in the life of the club.
There was also an opportunity to celebrate a significant playing milestone, with Lewis Hancock’s 200th first-team appearance recognised.
In a more poignant moment, guests remembered former Derby RFC player Paul Timson, whose recent sad passing was acknowledged and his memory was toasted with warmth and respect.
Held ahead of a first-team fixture, the lunch is a regular feature of the club calendar, with the occasion providing an opportunity to reconnect regardless of the opposition on the day. This year’s gathering was characterised by a convivial atmosphere, with feedback from guests generally positive.
Plans for next year’s Vice Presidents’ Lunch will be considered over the summer, as Derby RFC looks forward to continuing this valued tradition of friendship, remembrance and support for the club.
