Chesterfield Panthers RUFC
Derby RFC

Derby Colts Claim Victory at Chesterfield.

The first half was a real arm wrestle, with both sides putting in big tackles and strong carries. Going into the break at 14–7, the game was still very much in the balance, and the boys knew there was plenty of work to do.

In the second half, we stuck to our strengths and let our defence do the talking. The boys showed tremendous commitment, putting in some massive hits, making strong carries and, most importantly, playing for each other. Our defensive effort was outstanding and proved to be the difference between the two sides.

Up front, the forwards laid a fantastic platform, dominating the mauls and controlling the tempo of the game. This gave the backs the freedom to play with confidence, move the ball and express themselves. Our kicking out of hand was excellent, finding space time and time again and putting us in strong attacking positions.

There was plenty of positive rugby on show, with strong running, physicality and a real team-first attitude throughout. We also left three tries begging, which shows just how many opportunities we created and how much more we can still improve.

The boys should be proud of the effort they put in. In difficult conditions, they stayed disciplined, trusted their strengths and worked tirelessly for one another.
