Derby U14 made the trip to Sleaford for their first NLD outing of the season. This was the first visit to here for our group.
After the long journey had been shaken-off, it was down to action.
Sleaford won the toss and opted to use the morning sun to their advantage. The hosts started the brighter of two teams, with the high tempo attacking rugby leading to an early first score, duly converted.
Derby started to wake up and find their way into the game with, Greeny scoring Derby’s first try, which Sam converted.
The hard work of the Derby forwards was paying off with plenty of ball for the backs to work with. Sam went on to score 3 further first half tries from inside centre, converting all 3 to give Derby a 28-7 lead at the break.
Derby’s defence was the best we have seen so far this season as Sleaford made a spirited second half fight back. Greeny scored his second of the game to provide a little more breathing space.
Sleaford weren’t done and fought back to score the last try of the game, plus the conversion.
After battle was done, the match ended 35-14 to Derby U14s. Following which, we were warmly hosted in the Sleaford clubhouse before the journey home.
