Our U13 group capped off their first season in the junior section with an NLD plate final win. Derby U13 came away 25-20 victor in a very close contest.
Stamford scored the first try of the game, followed by the perfect response from Derby who went over for 4 first half tries to lead at the break.
Derby scored another try early in the second half to further increase their lead and stamp what they thought was firm authority on the game.
However, to Stamford’s credit, they didn’t let heads drop and weren’t going to make things easy for Derby. The comeback was on as Stamford started to fight their way back into the game against the tiring Derby players. The Stamford response was a further 3 tries to add to their tally as they piled the pressure on Derby and chipped away at the once impressive lead.
The game finished 25-20 to Derby U13 in a perfect advertisement for junior rugby. Both teams were well-drilled, disciplined and a credit to their respective clubs and coaches. And of course, a mention to the very proud parents, grandparents, carers, extended family and supporters who made the 2-hour journey for a 10am kick-off to cheer Derby U13s to their NLD final victory!
